Haldar completed his early education at Lalgola M.N. Academy and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from K.N. College, Baharampur in 1985. A year later, in 1986, he joined the Eastern Railway’s Malda Division as a freight train guard, a job that entailed long hours and physically demanding journeys through remote landscapes across Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Though a challenging role, it became a pivotal phase in Haldar’s intellectual transformation.

In fact, then-President of India Pranab Mukherjee was so impressed by Haldar’s writing that he invited him to the Rashtrapati Bhavan — a rare honour that validated Haldar’s intellectual contributions and encouraged him to pursue his path with even greater resolve.

Haldar’s personal life is deeply rooted in family values. He resides in Bidhanpally, English Bazar Town, Malda, with his wife, Ila Haldar, and their two sons. His elder son, Amit, works in a local government office, while his younger son, Kinkar, is focused on his educational and professional preparation. Family has been a constant source of strength and encouragement for Haldar. In fact, it was at the suggestion of his wife, Ila, that his name was submitted for the Padma Shri nomination in 2025 — a decision that ultimately led to national recognition.
