How Many Medals Have India Won In Olympics Till Date?

Please note : We have won 3 bronze uptill now in 2024 Paris Olympics but it has not been listed here because we expect to win more and once this olympics gets over. All medals of 2024 shall be added in updated list.

Here is a list of India’s Olympic medals over the years with a brief description of each medal:

1900 Paris

1. Silver: Norman Pritchard – Athletics (Men’s 200 meters)
   Norman Pritchard won India’s first Olympic medals in athletics, clinching silver in the 200 meters sprint.
2. Silver: Norman Pritchard – Athletics (Men’s 200 meters hurdles)
   He also secured another silver in the 200 meters hurdles.

1928 Amsterdam

3. Gold: Indian Hockey Team – Field Hockey
   India won its first gold medal in field hockey, beginning a historic dominance in the sport.

1932 Los Angeles

4. Gold: Indian Hockey Team – Field Hockey
   The Indian team continued their winning streak, securing another gold in field hockey.

1936 Berlin

5. Gold: Indian Hockey Team – Field Hockey
   Under the captaincy of Dhyan Chand, India won its third consecutive gold medal in field hockey.

1948 London

   Post-independence, India continued their dominance by winning the gold in field hockey.

1952 Helsinki

8. Bronze: Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav – Wrestling (Men’s freestyle bantamweight)
   Jadhav became the first Indian to win an individual Olympic medal.

1960 Rome
