Postal Employees’ Bonus for 2025-26: Eligibility, Amount, Calculation and Payment Details

India Post has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 60 days’ emoluments for eligible postal employees for the accounting year 2025-26. The Department of Posts issued the order on October 16, 2026, bringing relief to eligible employees of the postal department ahead of the festive season.

The announcement also covers ex-gratia bonus payments for regularly engaged Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and ad-hoc bonuses for eligible full-time casual labourers, including temporary-status casual labourers.

The order, issued by the Ministry of Communications under reference number PP-26/1/2020-PAP, outlines the eligibility categories, calculation methods, salary ceilings and conditions applicable to the payments.

Postal Employees’ Bonus 2025-26: Key Highlights

Here are the important details of the announcement:

  • Bonus period: Accounting year 2025-26
  • Bonus for eligible regular postal employees: Equivalent to 60 days’ emoluments
  • Eligible regular staff: Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees covered by the order
  • Gramin Dak Sevaks: Ex-gratia bonus under the applicable rules
  • Casual labourers: Ad-hoc bonus, subject to eligibility conditions
  • Salary ceiling for regular employees: ₹7,000 per month for bonus calculation
  • Order date: October 16, 2026
  • Order number: PP-26/1/2020-PAP

The bonus is calculated according to prescribed formulas rather than simply paying two months of an employee’s actual salary.

Who Is Eligible for the Postal Employees’ Bonus?

The Department of Posts has identified three broad categories for the 2025-26 bonus payments.

1. MTS, Group C and Non-Gazetted Group B Employees

Eligible regular employees working in these categories are covered by the Productivity Linked Bonus scheme. The payment is based on the employee’s average qualifying emoluments during the accounting year, subject to the prescribed salary ceiling.

The applicable amount can vary depending on the employee’s qualifying emoluments and the period of service considered under the rules.

2. Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS)

Regularly engaged Gramin Dak Sevaks are covered by provisions for an ex-gratia bonus.

For GDS employees who remained on duty throughout the accounting year, the calculation uses the average monthly Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), together with the corresponding Dearness Allowance (DA), drawn between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

The calculation is subject to a monthly ceiling of ₹7,000. Eligible GDS employees who served for only part of the year may receive a proportionate payment, depending on their circumstances.

The rules also address substitutes, short-term vacancies, periods when employees were put off duty and other qualifying service conditions.

3. Full-Time and Temporary-Status Casual Labourers

Eligible full-time casual labourers, including temporary-status casual labourers, may receive an ad-hoc bonus under the separate provisions in the order.

The eligibility conditions include working eight hours a day for at least 240 days annually for three consecutive years or more as of March 31, 2026. For offices observing a five-day working week, the specified threshold is 206 days in each year for three years or more.

The calculation uses notional monthly wages of ₹1,200, subject to the provisions governing the actual period of service and wages received.

These rules differ from those applicable to regular employees and GDS, so casual labourers should not assume that their payment will equal 60 days of their actual salary.

How Much Bonus Will Postal Employees Receive?

The exact bonus depends on the applicable calculation method and qualifying emoluments.

For regular postal employees, the Department of Posts has prescribed the following formula:

Bonus = Average monthly emoluments × Number of bonus days ÷ 30.4

The figure 30.4 represents the average number of days in a month used for the calculation.

For the 2025-26 accounting year, qualifying monthly emoluments exceeding ₹7,000 are restricted to ₹7,000 for this purpose.

Example of the Bonus Calculation

Consider an eligible employee whose qualifying average monthly emoluments are ₹7,000 and who qualifies for the full 60-day bonus.

The calculation would be:

₹7,000 × 60 ÷ 30.4 = ₹13,815.79

After rounding to the nearest rupee, the indicative bonus would be ₹13,816.

This is the maximum calculation based on the stated ceiling and the full 60-day entitlement under the regular employee formula. It is not the guaranteed payment for every postal employee.

Employees with lower qualifying emoluments may receive less. Employees who do not qualify for the entire period may also have a different entitlement under the applicable rules.

How Is the GDS Bonus Calculated?

The calculation for Gramin Dak Sevaks follows a similar structure but uses their qualifying allowance rather than the regular employees’ emoluments.

For GDS who were on duty throughout 2025-26, the department calculates the average monthly TRCA plus the corresponding DA drawn during the accounting year.

Where the combined amount exceeds ₹7,000 in any month, the applicable amount is restricted to ₹7,000 for the calculation.

The formula is:

GDS bonus = Average qualifying monthly TRCA × Number of bonus days ÷ 30.4

The prescribed procedure and applicable conditions determine the final payment. GDS who joined during the year, left service or experienced qualifying interruptions may be entitled to a proportionate amount.

Employees should consult the departmental order and their administrative office for their individual calculation.

What About Casual Labourers?

The order provides a separate method for calculating the ad-hoc bonus payable to eligible casual labourers.

The calculation is based on notional monthly wages of ₹1,200, the applicable number of bonus days and the prescribed method for determining the amount payable for the actual period during which services were used.

Where actual monthly wages fall below ₹1,200 during the relevant period, the order directs that the actual wages drawn be considered in arriving at the amount due.

Consequently, casual labourers should check their service records, working days and qualifying status before estimating their payment.

When Will the Bonus Be Credited?

The Department of Posts issued the order on October 16, 2026. It states that the expenditure will be met from the sanctioned grant for the financial year 2026-27.

However, the order does not establish a single guaranteed bank-credit date for every employee.

The actual date of payment may depend on the processing of the bonus by the relevant postal circle, office and accounts unit. Employees should contact their administrative or accounts office for information about the payment schedule and any individual discrepancies.

The order also directs the relevant units to compile information about the total expenditure and number of employees paid.

Where Can Employees Check the Official Order?

Postal employees can consult the Department of Posts’ official Employee Corner for circulars and departmental orders.

The announcement is listed under reference number PP-26-1-2020-PAP, dated October 16, 2026.

Employees should rely on the official order for eligibility, calculation and payment conditions rather than estimates circulated on social media.

Conclusion

The approval of a 60-day Productivity Linked Bonus for eligible postal employees for 2025-26 provides an additional payment to covered staff of India Post. The order includes MTS, Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees, alongside separate bonus provisions for eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks and casual labourers.

For regular employees who qualify for the full 60-day payment and reach the ₹7,000 monthly calculation ceiling, the indicative bonus works out to approximately ₹13,816.

Nevertheless, the final amount depends on the employee category, qualifying emoluments, period of service and applicable rules. Employees should verify their individual entitlement through their departmental office and the official Department of Posts order.
